AVP Chicago was an epic way to end the 2017 professional beach volleyball season. Being the official apparel sponsor of AVP has been one of the most rewarding experiences.
The courts on Lake Michigan with the city in the background were a breathtaking view. The only thing better than the view was the level of competition. Rox Volleyball professionals brought the heat to the windy city.
Coming right off winning the FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg, Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, made it all the way to the finals. They took home 2nd to Ryan Doherty and John Hyden. Both sets finished with a score of 21-19, 21-19. It was about as close as it gets!
John Hyden at 44 years old is now the oldest professional in history to win an AVP title! 40 must be the new 30, which means our athletes have long careers ahead.
Our King Crabb took home 5th place. We have very high hopes for him next season to reign his claim at AVP.
On the ladies side Rox Volleyball Pro’s, Kendra Van Zwieten, Kaya Marciniak, and Brittany Tiegs all tied for 13th place. It was great to see Kendra back on the courts after just overcoming her 6th concussion! Tiegs continued to make a name for herself by forcing many upsets for other opponents.
Emily Stockman took a loss in the second round, placing 17th overall. However, she lost to Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, the team who took 1st place in the entire tournament!

The tournament has not only brought players and superfans together, but also raised money for Hurricane Harvey. The AVP utilized the tournament as an opportunity to give back. Throughout the weekend 20% of all merchandise sales were donated to JJ Watt’s Houston Flood Relief Fund.
It is mind-blowing another year of AVP has already concluded. The volleyball community is tight-knit and one we can’t get enough of. We are thrilled about how much the game of volleyball is growing! Until next year AVP…
